1. Lohri

As kids, we used to go once a year seeking alms from neighbours before the festival of Lohri. (This festival is celebrated on the 13th day of January in India).

We would usually go in herds, chant something and and most people would give about 5 paise (about one cent at the then prevalent exchange rates) in alms. Those who did not give any alms, we would call poppers.

On one occasion, we got 25 paise (five times more) from someone and we had tremendous joy.
